Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, online casinos have ballooned in the last two years. Unfortunately, with this popularity comes tomfoolery, as many rogue online casinos illegally operate online and scam people. Naturally, this can make you distrustful and suspicious. It might even discourage you from playing at online casinos.

The online casino industry is worth billions of dollars and grows yearly. With so much money at stake, it’s no wonder that some people try to take advantage of players by running scams.

Fortunately, there are also a lot of legitimate online casinos out there that are safe to play at. To find out if an online casino is legit, there are a few things you can look for.

Reasonable Account Registration

Of course, before you can play in online casinos, you need to create an account first. Mainly, there are only two steps to registering in online casinos. First, you must fill out critical information about yourself like your full name, complete address, etc. Then, after all of that has been verified, you need to deposit some money in your account, and you’re good to go.

It’s straightforward and can be done in only a few minutes. But, of course, all of the information is encrypted. However, fake online casinos tend to make you input everything multiple times, saying that the server is currently in maintenance or is very laggy at the moment. This can be a red flag as it usually means their server is unencrypted, which means that your information can be leaked, which includes your card number if you’ve inputted them.

Certification

Online Casino must have a licence and certification to operate. Legal casinos are all regulated by the proper authorities, which means they were inspected and, most of all, audited by the government.

After all these steps, they will be given a licence and a certification, which means they are entirely legal and allowed to operate by the state. During these inspections, the government usually inspects the algorithm for all their games to ensure they are fair and square. And then they audit the casinos to see if nothing fishy is going on in their financials.

If you’re interested in an online casino you’ve visited, you should check if they have a licence and a certification. Most of the time, these documents are easy to spot; sometimes, they even have a dedicated page instead of sticking them below the front page.

Payment Methods

One of the ways to check if an online casino is legit is to see their payment methods. Usually, a legit online casino has the common ones like Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, etc.

These popular financial companies trust the online Casino enough to have a partnership with them. This means that they are trustworthy enough for their reputation. If you only see a few obscure ones, then it might be a red flag for that online Casino.

Website Security

A legit casino is confident in its security software. Most of them will even assure you by making you visit a dedicated page about their security software and how it is compatible with different devices.

This will often tell you which games you can play on a specific device. Usually, they will use 128-bit security encryption that ensures that all your data on the site is always safe and secure.

If an online casino doesn’t have any web security measures in place, it’s a good idea to avoid playing there.

Customer Support

Of course, not all sites are safe from errors. Even the most popular online casinos have them from time to time, which is why they have 24/7 customer support that is always ready to help their players any time they need. That said, always having online and very helpful customer support usually means that an online casino is legit.

Their representatives will always stay with the players until their problems are solved and will even offer compensation if it’s necessary. Of course, startup casinos often have lousy customer support or none since they haven’t established it yet, and that’s okay. However, if the online Casino has already been online for quite some time not but still doesn’t have customer support, then it’s a huge red flag.

Final Words

With all of the online casinos on the internet today, it’s unavoidable that there will always be a few bad apples on the tree. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to find the bad among the good ones. However, if you’re still unsure, you can check the points we discussed above to ensure that the online Casino you’re frequenting is safe and legit.
